J. Alten (Al) Kearl died March 26, 2014 in Corvallis, Oregon. He was born May 31, 1926 in Fish Haven, Idaho to Vera C. and Alten M. Kearl.
He attended grammar school in Fish Haven, and graduated from Fielding High School in Paris in 1943.
Following a two year service in the Navy during WWII, he graduated in 1949 from Utah State College with an Engineering degree in Radio and Electronics.
His engineering career led him to many locations including an assignment in the South Pacific with the Sandia Corporation, in various stations across Alaska with the Civil Aeronautics Administration (now FAA), and in the Seattle area with United Control/Sundstrand and Boeing.
Al married Cordelia Rankin in 1954. They had three children, Michael (San Antonio, Texas), Dan (Corvalis, Ore.), and Anne, with Anne preceding her father in death.
In his retirement, he resided in Sequim, Wash. after living in Bellevue, Wash. for many years. His hobbies included flying, history of aviation, boating, gardening, and woodworking.
A graveside service will be held at the Fish Haven Cemetery on April 5 at 1 p.m.
Survivors are his wife, Cordelia, sons Dan and Michael, brother Eldon S. Kearl, and grandsons Frank and Zachary Kearl.
